I
will never regret taking the first step towards what my life has evolved
to presently. I was an RN for many years, enjoying it immensely and
never thinking I would leave the profession. The sudden death of my
husband, as the result of a car accident, changed my life drastically.
Having
always been interested in fiber art, I quit my job and enrolled at the
University of Oregon in the Fiber Dept. From weaving, in which I was
already accomplished, I moved towards surface design and the desire
to learn more about cloth. Altering the surface and changing the properties
of the cloth was most intriguing. Slowly over the years I developed
a repertoire of surface design treatments which I employ in making apparel
and yardage that I retail. I like to produce clothing that will have
a long shelf life and not go out of style very easily. Yardage has now
been added for those who have interest in obtaining the cloth and not
the clothing.
I
started retailing my woven pieces in 1990 and slowly, as my experience
grew with surface design treatments, so did the choices of garments.
At present I offer silk and velvet clothing and yardage using the various
techniques discussed; hand painted silk pieces; and silk/rayon garments,
using various techniques such as discharge, devore, piecing and dying.
My
enthusiasm is greater than ever and I never want to stop learning or
seeking new information. I love what I do and I especially love to see
women wearing the clothing I produce and people using yardage of my
cloth in their various projects.
